Nitenpyram is a highly effective neonicotinoid insecticide. It mainly exerts its effect by interfering with the insect nervous system and is widely used in agricultural pest control and pet deworming.

Product Details

I. Basic Information

Chemical Name: (E)-N-[(6 - chloro - 3 - pyridyl)methyl]-N - ethyl - N'- methyl - 2 - nitrovinyldiamine

CAS Number: 150824-47-8

Molecular Formula: C₁₁H₁₅ClN₄O₂

Molecular Weight: 282.72.

II. Mechanism of Action

Targets the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) in the insect nervous system, continuously activates nerve signal transduction, leading to overexcitation, paralysis, and eventually death of insects.

Selective Action: Low affinity for mammalian receptors, thus relatively safe for humans and pets (but the dosage needs to be strictly controlled).

III. Main Application Scenarios

Agriculture and Horticulture:

Control Targets: Sucking pests: aphids, leafhoppers, whiteflies, thrips, planthoppers, etc.

Coleopteran pests: some beetles (such as the Colorado potato beetle).

Crops Suitable for: vegetables, fruits, cotton, rice, ornamental plants, etc.

Application Methods:Foliar spraying, soil treatment, or seed treatment, and the concentration needs to be adjusted according to the type of pests (usually the effective dosage is 50 - 200 g/ha).

Pet Deworming (Veterinary Use):

Product Form: Oral tablets (such as Capstar®), used for emergently killing fleas on cats and dogs.

Features: Fast Flea Elimination: Takes effect within 30 minutes after administration, and kills over 90% of adult fleas within 4 hours.

Short - term Effect: The drug effect lasts about 24 hours, and needs to be combined with long - acting deworming drugs (such as topical drops) to maintain the effect.

IV. Dosage Forms and Precautions

Common Dosage Forms: Agricultural use: 70% water-dispersible granules (WG), 5% emulsifiable concentrate (EC).

Veterinary use: 11 mg, 22 mg oral tablets.

Use Contraindications: Agriculture: Avoid using during the active period of bees (such as flowering period) to prevent water pollution (moderate toxicity to fish).

Pets: Contraindicated for puppies/cats weighing < 2 kg, pregnant animals, and animals with impaired liver and kidney function; Do not mix with pyrethroid drugs (may increase the risk of neurotoxicity).
