What is Streptomycin Sulphate    ?

Streptomycin sulfate is an aminocyclitol glycoside antibiotic which interferes with protein synthesis in prokaryotes. This Streptomycin sulfate antibiotic is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is frequently used in cell culture media. Streptomycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit at the S12 protein thereby inducing a misreading of the genetic code, inhibiting the initiation of translation of DNA which then results in death for a susceptible bacterium.

Function of Streptomycin sulfate

An antibiotic produced by the soil actinomycete Streptomyces griseus. Streptomyces acts by inhibiting
the initiation and elongation processes during protein synthesis. For tularemia, plague, brucellosis and
glanders serious treatment (often combined with tetracycline or chloramphenicol). Also used second-
line treatment of TB and multi-combination with other anti-TB drugs.

Application of Streptomycin sulfate

Streptomycin sulfate is Used for tuberculosis, brinell and non hemolytic hammer coli caused by infective
endocarditis, plague and tularemia, influenzae and gram-negative bacteria infection treatment.
