Ampicillin Sodium,is a class of beta-lactam antibiotics used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Indications include respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, meningitis, salmonella, and endocarditis. It can also be used to prevent group B streptococcal infection in newborns and can be administered orally, intramuscularly or intravenously. Ampicillin was first discovered in 1961. It is listed in the Who Standard List of Essential Medicines and is one of the essential medicines in basic public health system.
