Mechanism of Action

It exerts antibacterial effects by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial folic acid. Bacteria cannot directly utilize folic acid in the surrounding environment. Instead, they need to use para - aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and dihydropteridine to synthesize dihydrofolic acid under the catalysis of dihydrofolate synthetase, and then generate tetrahydrofolic acid under the action of dihydrofolate reductase. The structure of sulfametoxydiazine is similar to that of PABA. It can compete with PABA for dihydrofolate synthetase, prevent the synthesis of bacterial dihydrofolic acid, and further affect the synthesis of bacterial nucleic acids and proteins, thus exerting antibacterial effects.

Pharmacological action

Antibacterial spectrum: It has an inhibitory effect on most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its effect on Gram-positive bacteria is relatively strong, such as hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus, staphylococcus, etc. It also has a certain antibacterial effect on Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, Shigella, etc.

Pharmacodynamic characteristics: It has relatively strong antibacterial activity and a relatively long duration of efficacy, and belongs to medium-acting sulfonamides.

Indications

Mainly used for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by sensitive bacteria, such as:

Respiratory tract infections: such as acute bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.

Urinary tract infections: such as urethritis, cystitis, etc.

Gastrointestinal infections: such as enteritis, dysentery, etc.

Skin and soft tissue infections: such as furuncles, carbuncles, cellulitis, etc.

Usage and Dosage

Usual Adult Dosage: Orally, 1g once a day, with the first dose doubled.

Usual Pediatric Dosage: Orally, 25 - 30mg/kg per day according to body weight, with the first dose doubled, once a day.
